Preparation Steps Before You Share Photos Online

Sharing photos has been one of the best ways to tell our loved ones that we care about them. The ability to share photos online has completely changed the way we shared our cherished memories with people. There are a number of online services which allow people to share photos online but before you start sharing your photographs, you must undergo the following steps to prepare your photos for online sharing.

First of all you need to organize your photographs properly. It is recommended that you arrange your photos in different folders so that when you upload them to share photos online. You can easily put them in appropriate albums. This can be done by using free software like Google's Picasa for Windows or Linux platform and iPhoto for Mac.

Second thing that you need to do is take a backup of the original images. While online photo album is a backup in itself, some services tend to reduce the quality of your images in order to keep the size lower. It is recommended to take back up after you have organized because in this way you would not have to bother about any organization work if you have to restore the images. You can use WinZip for Windows Amada or Bacula for Linux or Apple Backup for Mac.

The next thing is to rotate the images. Even if you held the camera vertically for some images, the photos that you clicked were saved horizontally. They have to be rotated. In Windows Xp, the Windows Image and Fax Viewer can rotate images for you. iPhoto is able to do the rotation for Mac users and Picasa can do the trick for Linux users.

Red Eye Removal is one more thing that needs to be done. Some cameras can not capture the color of eyes properly and due to unsynchronized flash activity they catch the subject's eye in red color sometimes. These images look very bad. You can remove red eyes using Picasa or iPhoto depending on your platform The job is done in just one click in both solutions.

Then you have to crop your images. By cropping your images, you can remove the unwanted artifacts or people that were photographed accidentally. Another benefit of cropping your photographs is that the file size goes down and if you are on a limited storage size service, you can easily store more photographs without having to pay for more storage. If you want you can also adjust the brightness and contrast and do some advanced editing of your images.

After you have done all this you are ready to share photos online. Just upload them and email the links to everyone you would like to see the images.
